Maria dos Anjos, a 62 year-old official dunker, baths a toddler in the sea as part of a ritual expected to heal and protect children from the Devil, in Sao Bartolomeu do Mar, Portugal, 2011. The ritual began at daybreak with children carrying black roosters around St. Bartholomew church three times, kissing a statue of the saint and then heading to the beach where they are dipped three times in the sea to complete the centuries old ritual. © Paulo Duarte
